I am a huge fan of White's Smoke Jumpers. A few years ago I went through wildland firefighter training here in Arizona and wore a pair of cheap boots that met the minimum standards to be on the fire line. I would have paid someone $400 to carry me off the fire line because my feet hurt so horribly at the end of the week. My dad, who was a wildland firefighter for 20+ years suggested White's. I bought my first pair in Prescott in 2004 and have worn them for everything from clearing brush on a friend's ranch to stomping the floor at a Social Distortion concert and of course, wildfires.
I started playing flat track roller derby three years ago to keep in shape. I am always shopping on eBay for skates and skate parts to build the ultimate skates . I was hunting for some skate boots when a pair of brand new White's in my size popped up. I snagged them, and with some help from the folks at Skatemall.com and my friend Snake who has every tool known to man, we built "The Boots". (see attached pictures)
Envy, admiration and fear do not describe the reactions these rolling beasts get. I have worn them for one formal scrimmage and lots of practices, they are amazing to skate in. My regular skates are less than a pound and these suckers come in at almost three each, but it is worth it. I am a little slower at the whistle, but once I get going, get out of my way. The stability on the corners and sheer momentum make these the perfect roller derby skates, plus they have an attitude all their own.
Thanks for making great boots and killer skates,
